The consulates of Mexico are really immigrant integration centers. He said the consulates work to make sure immigrants are better integrated into the economy and society. They also promote trade between Mexico and the United States and investment between the two countries.
Rodriguez also said that his office will step in to help Mexican nationals that need assistance for all kinds of cases from domestic violence to family court. He said if an immigrant needs help in one of those instances they are often more comfortable coming to the consulate and they’ll liaison with law enforcement or nonprofits working in that field.
Recently, his office created a scholarship fund for DACA, or deferred action for childhood arrivals, recipients, which are immigrants who were brought to the country illegally when they were children but have grown up in the United States and very few connections to their home country. He said that many of those immigrants lack the resources to get a higher education the new scholarship will help bridge that gap.
As far as his favorite Mexican food restaurant, Rodriguez said while there a some good ones in Southern Nevada, “there is opportunities for better ones,” and he is hopeful someone will take up that effort.
