Nevada Week In Person | Shani Coleman
SEASON 1: EPISODE 31 | Airdate: 7/2/2022
One-on-one interview with Shani Coleman.
Coleman is a Las Vegas native, who is now tasked with developing Clark County's economy through community and economic development programs. Coleman says Southern Nevada has the same great dining, shopping, sports and entertainment as larger metro areas, without the same problems that those areas have.
But in an effort to make sure Southern Nevada can survive another recession or pandemic, Coleman said there are two things that need to happen. The first is that we support our main economy of hospitality and tourism, but she says there is an opportunity right now to go beyond hospitality and tourism with industries that supplement and support those industries. She pointed to technology as an example of another industry that can support Southern Nevada's largest industry but also become its own stand-alone industry.
Coleman also applauded the Clark County Commission's decision to re-establish the county's Redevelopment Agency. She said the re-establishment of the agency allows the county to look at redevelopment of older and more established neighborhoods in a new way. She believes the agency will allow for some re-investment areas of the county that were actually once the city's suburbs but are now more of an urban core since the city grew up and out.
