Jessica Russell accepts $5,500 grant from Cox Charities on behalf of Vegas PBS

LAS VEGAS, NV – Vegas PBS is happy to announce that it received a cash grant from Cox Charities in the amount of $5,500. Vegas PBS will use the funds to scale its PBS KIDS Afterschool STEAM programs, which engage children in science and engineering concepts through educational media, literacy experiences and child-led projects.

Vegas PBS’ Ready To Learn program helps teachers, parents and schools create engaging and stimulating educational environments for children. Through the PBS LearningMedia system, educators have access to thousands of lesson plans that are aligned with readily accessible PBS programs. These materials connect to national productions like NOVA or Nature and local Vegas PBS shows, such as Vegas PBS STEAM Camp.

“With the need and demand for individuals with a robust knowledge of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) concepts, Vegas PBS is working to expand our educational efforts in this area,” said Jessica Russell, Ready To Learn Coordinator at Vegas PBS. “We’re very thankful to Cox Charities for providing us the means to galvanize this initiative.”

“Through the generosity of our Cox Las Vegas employees, as well as the kindness of our vendors and suppliers who sponsor and participate in our annual Cox Charities Golf Tournament, we were able to present Cox Charities grants to local nonprofits to support the important work each does in Southern Nevada,” said Cox Las Vegas Market Leader and Vice President Janet Uthman.

Vegas PBS has already begun utilizing the funds donated from Cox Charities by delivering PBS KIDS learning kits to Jesse D. Scott Elementary School, one of many afterschool programs that will be receiving the curriculum. To learn more about Ready To Learn, visit vegaspbs.org/rtl
