LAS VEGAS, NV – Vegas PBS is proud to announce and congratulate the winners of the 2022 VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest Presented by Janice Allen.

A panel of authors, educational staff and community members selected 19 winners from a pool of more than 800 entries submitted by children in kindergarten through fifth grade. The winning stories were chosen based on originality, creative expression and several other criteria. Three top winners were selected from each grade level, with an additional student honored in fourth grade. Vegas PBS staff surprised each winner at their school with a prize pack including a trophy and a bound copy of their story.

“We received an overwhelming number of entries this year,” said Jessica Russell, Vegas PBS Ready To Learn Coordinator. “Every year the stories just keep getting better. This contest provides a great outlet for all students to showcase their creativity and talent.”

The VEGAS PBS KIDS Writers Contest Presented by Janice Allen is designed to promote the advancement of children’s literacy skills through hands-on, active learning. The contest – made possible by local financial support from Janice Allen – empowers children in grades K-5 to celebrate creativity and build literacy skills by writing and illustrating their very own stories.

In lieu of an in-person awards ceremony, Vegas PBS will produce a broadcast special that will air in September 2022 on Channel 10.1.
